12.9 Inch iPad Pro Final Review

Vemuda Techno - The 2021 iPad Pro can  outperform any tablet on the market without question, and it is even more powerful than some of Apple's own laptops.

Now, this is a unique position because the iPad Pro is an attractive device to those of us who want to modernize our computing setup while minimizing our footprint.

Now, the iPad Pro can achieve this increased performance due to the tight coupling between hardware and software cream related unparallel computing experience.

The 12.9 inch iPad Pro with M1 has been my daily driver for almost 18 months and I've come to love many things about it.

Now there are a few things that I don't love about it, as well as a few improvements that I want the M2 iPad Pro to fix.

So whether you want to purchase the sixth generation 2022 iPad Pro that was just announced, or you are curious whether or not that 2021 iPad Pro will fit your needs.

Let's get started. Now it is October 2022, and Apple just announced updates to the most premium tablet on the market, the iPad Pro.

And today's post is intended  to help you decide whether you should buy the newest iPad Pro or maybe save yourself a little bit of money and purchase the previous generation.

Now, this is my final review for the M1 iPad Pro. It's not going to be a deep dive into the raw specs, the device, because quite frankly, that's not why you're here.

And you can find that information very easily on Apple's own website. Instead, my review will be based on eight months worth of usage, covering several different aspects of owning the most powerful tablet that Apple sells.

Now, if you find something that is not answered in the post, your questions, feel free to comment down below as I am very active in the comments.

This is the 2021 M1 iPad Pro and I have it configured with one terabyte of internal  storage and 16 gigs of RAM.

Having previously owned both the 12.9 and the 11 inch iPad Pro, I continue to opt for the larger size iPad for a few different reasons.

First I wanted is large screen as possible so that while I'm working maybe in split screen or in slide over, I didn't want to feel space constrained.

Now, even though iPad OS 16 does have stage manager to me, I still want the biggest  display possible so I can see my content on as big of a screen and be able to interact it very freely.

Second, I want to use the iPad Pro for more and more of my general computing tasks, meaning that I most often find myself using the iPad Pro, you know, either with a keyboard, with a mouse and keyboard case like the magic keyboard.

Now, like most of you. My typing speed and accuracy go up if I'm using a larger keyboard, and the 12.9 inch iPad Pro is really the only reasonable choice.

The 11 inch magic keyboard is just a little bit too small for my liking and my fingers feel a  little bit cramped and I don't have that speed and accuracy that I really like to have.

Ask him figured this portable powerhouse sells for $1,799 and to only. I decided to add 5G for an extra 200 bucks, bringing the total up to $1,999.

Now, many of you are probably shaking your head thinking, why on earth would you buy a cellular enabled iPad when you can just tethered to your iPhone ?

Now, I think that if you are spending this much money on a tablet tablet is really  designed around portability and versatility.

You're doing yourself a disservice by not adding 5G because the device itself really kind of excels while being used out and about.

Truth be told, I have not found  the 2021 M1 iPad Pro to have any significant shortcomings with my use cases, and I'm pretty sure that it would be sufficient enough for many of you. Save yourself some money.

The design of the 2021 iPad Pro is essentially the same as it has been since 2018, with only some minor changes to it. And the M2 iPad Pro carries forward the design having the same exact dimensions.

The fifth generation iPad Pro is 42 grams heavier and slightly thicker than the fourth generation A12z iPad Pro and the new iPad Pro has the same exact weight coming in at 682 grams.

Now, unless you are intimately familiar with the fourth generation A12z iPad Pro, you held it on daily basis.

You're really not going to notice the thickness or weight difference because it's not you know, it's very nominal.

The liquid retina XDR display is one of, if not the most defining features of the 2021 iPad Pro, and I am a massive fan of using it.

This makes using the device an absolute pleasure to use whether using the iPad Pro to binge the latest show on Netflix or to write  your novel.

The display resolution on the 12.9 inch iPad Pro measures 2732 pixels wide by 2048 pixels high. This makes it display a four by three aspect ratio with a 264 pixels per inch comment. iPad Pro max down in the comments below.

If you're like me and you want Apple to release a larger iPad Pro now in terms of  display brightness, the liquid retina XDR display can reach 600 nits of brightness in typical mix usage, 1000 nits of brightness when you are playing full screen non HDR content and an amazing 600 nits of peak brightness for full  screen HDR content.

It's going to be viewable off access without much color change. I suggest if you are interested in this type of feature, you make sure that you view it in person depending on the content you are engaging with on  your iPad.

Some high contrast videos may display some artifacting due to the number of local dimming zones that are on the iPad, and I am interested to see if the mini OLED panel on the M2 iPad Pro performs any better  than the display on this version.

Now, between a new panel and the fact that Apple is using mini LEDs that are supposedly like 12 times smaller, this could mitigate the blooming effects that people were complaining about with the 2021 iPad Pro.

I didn't find the blooming effects bothersome and I think that there is definitely a level of subjectivity.

So again, if this is you, I would definitely suggest viewing both devices in person to check that out. My thoughts are if the iPad Pro had a superpower, it would almost certainly be flat.

Stability

That is because iPad Pro is both powerful and conformable, allowing you to work almost anywhere you want. Find yourself on top of that.

The iPad pro as a little more flexibility because uniquely you can choose how much ram you want your iPad pro to have the.iPad pros available with either eight or 16 gigs of RAM. And the caveat is that the Rams tied to how much storage you want on that device.

So you'll get 16 gigs around with either one or two terabytes of storage while all other configurations have eight gigs of RAM.

Now, this is kind of like forcing you to spend more money to get additional storage on the device with the benefit of having more RAM.

But my opinion, I don't think that most people need this now, whether you're buying your first iPad or your next iPad Pro, there's a very good chance to assume that you don't need to purchase a higher tier configuration because it's not going to be money well spent, in my opinion.

Now, most of the apps that I use as part of my workflow are not RAM intensive..Now, that's that thing that you're after, not RAM intensive, but I don't  initially see the benefit of having more RAM. I think it's not as significant as most people think or hope.

Now you might say that stage manager and external display support our reasoning to go  ahead and do so. But I don't think that most  people are going to benefit from that.

And unless you're using your iPad in that configuration with an external display, I would definitely suggest researching.it before spending the extra money.

Regarding storage

I don't think that 120 gigs is really appropriate for anyone and I would purchase 256 gigs or maybe even 512.

I wish that Apple would raise the first tier storage limit from 122 to 56 because iPad OS really lacks the maturity needed to allow you to store app data outside of the iPad. Maybe 128 would be good for you.

But if you're planning on keeping the iPad again, you know, two, three, four years, I really feel that 120 is too small and it's going  to be money better spent. On upgrading the storage from 128 to 56, like the 2022 iPad Pro.

The last model is configured with four stereo speakers. Now, not only the speakers  dynamically change what music is coming out of there based on the device's orientation, you'll hear both mid and high  frequencies from the upper left in the upper right when you hold the device in portrait mode, while the two lower speakers handle the lower frequencies make sense.

Now if you change the device's orientation from portrait into landscape, the top left  and top right speakers are going to play the highs  and mids, while the two lower speakers are on play  the low frequencies.

I thought they sounded better on the 2021 iPad Pro, but I'm certainly no audio file now. You also get spatial audio with the 2021 iPad Pro as a feature that's carried forward in  the new model.

But I hope that Apple's really able to push the speakers forward and continue to improve the iPad Pro's sound quality and audio experience.

Now obviously the devices cost does not include such accessories as the magic  keyboard and the Apple pencil, which costs 350  in 130 respectively.

If you have an older iPad Pro, something older than the A12z, which is the fourth generation iPad pro, your accessories that you have minus the magic keyboard and minus the Apple pencil will not fit because the thickness of the new iPad pro from fifth generation  going forward, it is about 6/10 of a millimeter thicker and 43 grams heavier.

So most accessories will not fit. They can't be reused. And any of your magic keyboards, those should fit as well. They might not close perfectly, but they.still functionally work.

And who wants to spend $3 on a new magic keyboard? That's just ridiculous. No one to do that.

Now I want to see Apple address three major things for me in the M2 iPad Pro.

I think it's feasible that they do address them based on what I've read and what I understand about the iPad Pro, that it's coming out in a few days here.

So first and foremost, I love to see them re-engineer the back like design on the mini  LED for better efficiency.

I probably get about six or 7 hours worth of screen on time most days and some days I get less than five depending on what I'm doing and I have to recharge my battery mid to late day only to get, you know, make it through the next day. So that's something I definitely want to see.

Apple Fix Also the effects of blooming wear on the first generation iPad Pro sorry, the first generation mini led iPad Pro there was blooming effects where if you're.watching dark content where you see the halo effect which is kind of distracting depending  on the content you're watching.

And that was a big point of concern for a lot of people. So I will also play it. It has that.

And the third thing I want to see, Apple Fix is going to be the front facing camera..It's really soft in anything  less than perfect light.

Even though Apple's using the same camera hardware, they're using a new ISP, which does allow it to record progress as well, which is a really great feature that I'm surprised that there  are doing that. So those are the three things that I want to see.

Apple Fix Now in terms of whether it's worth for you to upgrade if you are coming from an iPhone iPad Pro, I would say it.

I mean, if you have the money, go ahead and do it. I'm not I tell you what to do with your money, but I don't.think it's money well spent. But if you buy a 2018 iPad Pro or even later, I'd say it's probably a pretty good upgrade.

The things that make it worth it in my mind are one, having the mini-led, having more processing speed, having a bigger CPU and those  things that come along with it, the neural engine and so on.

But for most people, again, if you have something that is, you know, newer than a12z, you probably shouldn't upgrade A12x and below you are absolutely the right person for this.

And I think if I were you, you know, depending on where you were going, it's probably not a lot of breath in upgrading to the M2.

You're probably better off going with the M1. M2 is just a real hard thing to justify upgrading from Apple's perspective.

If that broke, don't fix it. I want to know what you're going to do. Let me know down in the comments below. Guys, I will talk to you in the next one. Thanks for reading at Vemuda Techno.
