Recycling is a lie! All you need to know about - Akhbaar Express

Plastic, the most popular material in the world. Nowadays everything is made up of plastic. Wherever you look, you will find plastic, in the form of chairs, TVs, mobiles, clocks, refrigerators, etc. It's cheap, durable, easily accessible and easy to mass produce, the only problem is that it can't be destroyed, it just keeps piling up and up and up. Now the condition has become like this, we can’t imagine our life without plastic.

Around the world, one million plastic bottles are purchased every minute, while around 5 trillion plastic bags are used every year around the world. Rate of using plastic is rising every year. Approximately 300 million tons of plastic we use every year, 10% of this plastic ends up in the ocean.

Plastic manufacturing industries don't care about increasing plastic in the earth, they focus only on selling more and more plastic and earning more profit since they started manufacturing plastic.

People are not that dumb, when people come to know, how much harmful is this. They start protesting, stop using plastic and discourage plastic making. To sort out this problem, industries come with a new idea or a solution called recycle. They said that they will collect all the scrap and waste plastic and reprocess the material into useful plastic. This decision calms down the people, things get normal and people start using plastic again.

Recycling is a lie!

This is the symbol of recycle

This is the Resin identification code (a symbol created by plastic industries)

The resin identification code a symbol created by the plastics industry in 1988 a symbol that's on almost every piece of plastic we buy today. These symbols are quite similar to the official recycling symbol.

Industries intentionally designed this to deceive the general public into believing the plastic we buy is recyclable. Recycling is literally a lie by plastic industries to sell more and more plastic. If this is not a lie then why are dumping yards or landfills and the ocean continuously filling withwaste plastic? Why are they not recycling the plastic?

Out of 6 Resin identification codes, only ‘1’ and ‘2’ code could be recyclable and others are not.  People are unaware of this. Recycling would never work; plastic industries know that; it would always be too expensive and plastic degrades every time it is recycled. So, it could only be used two or three times and making new plastic is much cheaper than that. Recycling is almost impossible now because people are throwing more and more junk into the recycle bin. Plus, recycling is not only expensive and labor intensive, it’s also even worse for environment, recycling involves bleaching and de – linking thing, that can pollute the environment

How much plastic in the world

Around 8.2 billion plastic waste in the world and around 300 million tons of plastic waste produced each year that isn't recycled and ends up in landfills but not all of it ends up there. Around 10 million tons end up in the ocean each year. According to some estimates, one garbage truck full of plastic is being dumped into the ocean every single minute due to heavy rain and wind moving trash into the ocean or it could be from illegal dumping.

Microplastics in food

Most of the plastic breaks into smaller and smaller pieces over time called microplastic. This microplastic is eaten by fish, seabirds, and other marine animals. Once eaten by animals, it becomes part of our human food cycle. As per estimation, the possible presence of microplastic is in, honey, sea salt, water, organic fertilizer and even in the air. Yes, this means everywhere in the food, in the air we inhale, in everything. Now just eating a bite of apple means eating hundreds of thousands of bites of plastic at the same time. We don’t even have a clear picture on what will be the long-term effect of this microplastic and of course, it's not going to be good.

Final Word

Recycling is not the solution of increasing plastic products and not even reusing it, is the solution. 300 million tons of plastic are produced every year, we can’t recycle or reuse even half percent of this plastic. There are only a few products which can be recyclable in ratio to non – recyclable plastic. People are consuming more and more plastic and throwing it in the recycle bin. It's not possible to recycle all this plastic and even if we try, it's going to harm our environment very badly. So, whether we recycle or not, it will harm our environment on both sides. Recycling can’t be the solution to this.

That is why we have to find an alternate way to counter this problem which should be environmentally friendly too. Currently, we could recycle or reuse the plastic, but these can’t be our last option, we have to find another best solution to counter this problem and to save our mother earth.
