WoW: Wrath of the Lich King Classic launches Sep 27 in APAC
Blizzard Entertainment today revealed that World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Classic will launch on September 27, 2022 (APAC Time). All players with an active subscription will receive full access at no additional cost.
According to Blizzard, the expansion of the MMORPG title will launch globally at 6 am GMT+8 and will be available on all WoW Burning Crusade Classic realms.
In order to confront the Lich King, players will undertake a perilous journey across the continent of Northrend; the largest land mass Blizzard has ever added to the game through an expansion (until the upcoming release of WoW Dragonflight). There, they will encounter some of the most breathtaking vistas and beloved storylines in all of Warcraft as they make strenuous efforts to breach Icecrown and vanquish one of Azeroth's most dire threats ever.
World of Warcraft executive producer Holly Longdale said the new expansion will "feature vast icy environments, unique dungeons and raids, and a gripping conclusion to the story of Prince Arthas."
This expansion introduces the Death Knight hero class, which is available to all players at level 55. As previous champions of the Lich King, Death Knights use dark magic and runic power to defeat their enemies.
Also included are the original version of the World of Warcraft achievement system, which recognizes a wide variety of player accomplishments in the game, and the introduction of the Inscription profession, which allows players to create ability-enhancing glyphs that alter the appearance and properties of spells and abilities.
Moreover, players will be able to put their skills and new abilities to the test in 13 unforgettable dungeons from Wrath of the Lich King, including Ahn'Kahet: The Old Kingdom, where they'll encounter the minions of the Old God Yogg-Saron, and the plague-infested Culling of Stratholme, which recreates the tragic event that led to Prince Arthas' downfall.
Those looking for the ultimate challenge can take on the nine raids introduced in the expansion, including updated versions of Onyxia's Lair and Naxxramas from pre-expansion World of Warcraft as well as the Icecrown Citadel, where the cinematic conclusion to the story of the Lich King is told.
Until the September 27 launch of Wrath of the Lich King Classic, players will be able to participate in Joyous Journeys, a bonus XP event with a 50 percent increase. Prior to the game's release, all WoW subscribers will be able to create one Death Knight per Classic realm, which they will have until September 27 to level up through Burning Crusade Classic content.
In addition, players will be able to purchase optional upgrades, such as new cosmetic items and a boost to level 70 for characters that are not yet fully leveled.
