'Solo Leveling' artist Dubu dies due to brain hemorrhage

Sung-Rak "Dubu" Jang, the artist of the popular South Korean webtoon Solo Leveling and CEO of Redice Studio, has passed away.

Redice Studio, through its official Twitter account, announced that Dubu died on July 23, 2022. The manhwa artist's cause of death was due to a cerebral hemorrhage from a chronic illness.

According to Redice, Dubu's funeral was kept private at the bereaved family's request, with only family members and friends in attendance.

Dubu started his career by illustrating various Japanese and South Korean series. Artist and author credits appear alongside the titles Space Dandy, The Island of Giant Insects, and Beautiful Legends, among others.

In 2018, Dubu became the artist for Solo Leveling, the webtoon adaptation of Chu-gong's web novel.

The webcomic's final chapter was published on December 29, 2021, bringing the total number of chapters to 179.

Solo Leveling anime will be produced by A-1 Pictures, with Shunsuke Nakashige serving as director and Noboru Kimura as head writer. Tomoko Sudo will lead the character design department.
