Steam, Epic, other sites banned in Indonesia; gamers use DNS to bypass block

Indonesia has banned several websites and digital services such as Steam, Epic Games, Origin, Battlenet, PayPal, and more.

Esports organization Team Secret immediately posted a tweet regarding the situation.

"Steam, PayPal, Battlenet, Epic Games and other websites have been banned in Indonesia," read the tweet.

Kominfo, the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology of Indonesia, has recently issued a regulation on Penyelenggara Sistem Elektronik Swasta (PSE) or Private Electronic System Providers requiring both domestic and international tech companies that offer services or conduct business in Indonesia to register with the government. Failure to do so will cause them to be blocked.

Gamers found a way to bypass Kominfo's censorship over several digital services and gaming websites. They use DNS or VPN. Note that it is not guaranteed to work on every banned website. It also depends on your network (Telkomsel, Indosat, XL Axiata, and Indihome). See below how to change your DNS.
