Riot Games to self-publish LoL, TFT in PH, Garena regions in 2023
Riot Games has announced that it will take over the publishing of League of Legends (LoL) and Teamfight Tactics (TFT) in Garena regions like Southeast Asia and Taiwan starting January 2023. Riot now has five self-published titles in the region, including Valorant, League of Legends: Wild Rift, and Legends of Runeterra.
According to Riot Games, while they self-published LoL and TFT in Southeast Asia (SEA), they will appoint Taiwan Mobile and VNGGames as new publishers in Taiwan and Vietnam, respectively.
For players in the Garena region, including the Philippines, check out the details below about account migration.
LoL Garena to Riot Games Account Migration: Steps
Riot will launch new League and TFT servers as part of the publishing transition, and Garena servers will cease operations by January 2023. Riot and Garena are collaborating closely on the account linking process, which will be available to all players on November 18, 2022, to ensure that players are able to transfer and maintain their existing account information on time.
After initiating the account linking process in November, players will have access to the Garena client until early January 2023. However, beginning in January, Riot servers will be accessible to all players via the Riot multi-game client. After players confirm their instructions and log into the Riot multi-game client for the first time in January, their entire game history will be migrated. Dates for the confirmed relaunch will be announced at a later time.

On December 31, 2022, Garena and Riot Games will officially end their publishing relationship. Once the publishing transition between the two companies is complete, players can anticipate a series of exciting welcome events and rewards, access to regional Riot publishing services such as Localization, Billing, and Player Support, as well as local marketing activities and the continued publishing of League esports. Long-term, players can anticipate deeper content integration within the Riot ecosystem, as well as exciting in-game and cross-franchise campaigns.
LoL and TFT will be published in Taiwan and Vietnam by Taiwan Mobile and VNGGames, respectively, and players in those markets will continue to enjoy the suite of publishing services offered by both publishers for League of Legends: Wild Rift, Legends of Runeterra, and Valorant.
LoL and TFT Will Be Published by Riot Games in Southeast Asia for the First Time
Riot granted Garena the rights to publish its PC MOBA game League of Legends in Southeast Asia in 2010, the same year the game debuted. Garena has fostered the growth of both LoL and TFT, ushering in League's milestone 10th anniversary in 2019.
Since then, Riot Games has launched and self-published new game titles with corresponding esports leagues, such as Valorant and the Valorant Champions Tour, League of Legends: Wild Rift and Wild Rift Esports, and has expanded its entertainment offerings to include new EPs from virtual bands K/DA and Pentakill under Riot Games Music and the release of animated series Arcane.
Riot has also steadily expanded its capabilities with a new operating model that focuses on the rapidly expanding Asia-Pacific region, where it has expanded its publishing reach to include Japan and India. Riot is in the process of establishing local offices in key markets, such as the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia, in order to strengthen its native presence and provide hyper-localized services to in-market players.
Alex Kraynov, Managing Director for APAC, Riot Games, said that they are "grateful for Garena's partnership and publishing support over the past decade," and they are looking forward to seeing their players "benefit from a unified Riot ecosystem and look forward to writing the next chapter with them."
Kevin Huang, Regional Producer of League of Legends, Garena, said that they "would like to thank Riot and the League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics communities for their tremendous support and partnership in growing both games to the successes they are today in Southeast Asia and Taiwan." Huang also wishes the team "every success in this next chapter."
