5 Best Budget Gaming Laptops Under $1500 in 2023

Vemuda Techno - Hi and welcome to Vemuda Techno. Gaming laptops come in all sorts of categories, but probably the most important ones are the ones that fit your budget.

Today we will be reviewing 5 gaming focused laptops at the friendly price point of under $1500, taking portability, features and performance into account.

1. MSI Stealth 15M

The Stealth's moniker is reflected in its design, which is sleek and moderate. The most critical remark would be that it is a little too simple, but the minimal dark gray style with a few little embellishments is a wonderful fit for the design.

Weighing only 3.7 pounds is excellent for any laptop larger than an ultraportable, but especially for a gaming laptop.

The keyboard and touchpad appear simple, yet they perform better than they appear. The keys are a decent size and have a pleasant feel to them. Touchpad is quick, pans smoothly, and is just large enough for the overall size of the laptop.

The 4 core i7 11375H processor is a high performing CPU, when paired with Nvidia’s premium tier, the RTX 3060, you can expect great gaming experiences. Based on Ampere Architecture, the RTX 3060 has some really good features for gaming.

In particular, the benefits of Ray Tracing or DLSS options are especially noticeable when playing effects heavy games.

The Stealth 15M sports a solid 16GB DDR4 3200MHz and 512GB SSD drive, consequently the laptop feels and acts fast.

MSI knows their consumers and have added a 15 inch 144Hz refresh rate display, specifically catered for competitive gameplay.

The 15M sports versatile connectivity, with 3 usb ports, 2 of which are type C with displayport function, a 4k 60Hz HDMI port and the regular audio combo port. All in all a low profile gaming laptop that will perform for a fair price.

2. Lenovo Legion Slim 7

The thin and light aluminum case in gray color isn’t very conspicuous. The only flashy design feature is the backlit Legion logo on the lid. Otherwise this looks like any other slim-sized laptop.

Opening up the computer reveals a full-sized backlit keyboard that occupies practically the whole width. The trackpad is also decently sized, with very good sensitivity and responsiveness.

Based on the Zen 3 core architecture, the Ryzen 7 5800H has 8 cores and a clock of 3.2GHz, and is only a little shy of the same benchmark scores as the 9 5900HX.

This system also utilizes the RTX 3060, which makes a lot of sense for budget friendly gaming laptops aiming for the triple A titles, displayed on a remarkable 165Hz full HD 15 inch screen.

The Legion Slim 7 stands out on this list, as it’s got not only 1 TB of NVMe SSD, but 2. With this amount of storage, you won't have to worry about running out or running games or applications on slower drives. Paired with 16GB of DDR4 3200MHz memory, long loading screens will be a thing of the past.

There is a built-in 720p webcam at the top of the screen, great sounding stereo speakers and a battery runtime of up to 8 hours.

Unfortunately there is no HDMI port in this design, but 2 USB ports and 2 USB-C display ports for external connection.

3. Dell G15 5520

Overall a gaming focused laptop with all the necessary features and then some. The Dell 5520 features a 15.6-inch 1080p display with good viewing angles and bright colors.

The laptop's sleek, black appearance is a little bulky, but it looks nice and won't take up too much space on your desk.

This model comes with a comfortable and backlit full-sized keyboard, the trackpad is fairly large, but responsive. Overall using the laptop without any external peripherals feels great. As with all budgets, compromises have to be made.

Luckily Dell has put together a gaming focused laptop without compromising on performance. The speedy i7-12700H actually has the highest benchmark score compared to the rest of this list.

Paired with 16GB of DDR5 4800MHz makes for a great baseline. Featuring the same graphics technology as in the Asus TUF Dash 15 with the RTX 3060 chip.

This combination provides steady FPS on high settings in triple A games, displayed on a 15 inch 120Hz bright and color accurate screen.

There is a built-in webcam and microphone, as well as a good number of ports, including HDMI, USB 3 and ethernet.
Battery life is not the longest amongst the other options on this list, but it maintains good performance for up to 6 hours on a single charge.

4. Asus ROG Strix G15

A great system for a multitude of different tasks, as well as excellent gaming performance.

This time around we will be looking at an all AMD laptop that delivers premium performance and actually edges out the other Intel and Nvidia laptops on this list. Especially with the addition of the new RX 6000M graphics chips released earlier this year.

In true ROG fashion, this is a laptop that appeals to gamers. Lifting the aluminum lid with a large ROG backlit logo, reveals the RGB keyboard, there is even a light bar at the bottom of the system shimmering to life when you power on the computer.

Considering the price point and build quality associated with it, this laptop feels surprisingly sturdy with no flimsy plastic chassis or suspicious flex in the body. The metal housing is also a soft-touch that doesn't compromise on comfort.

It is however the performance that puts this particular model near the top of our list. Even though AMD has no option for 4k gaming at the moment, they have caught up to Intel and Nvidia’s options regarding value vs performance.

The AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX delivers great gaming performance, but it’s the RX 6000M series that truly pushes the boundaries.

Boasting AMDs new RX 6800M chip which deals a lot better with rendering target array and geometry shading performance than the RTX 3060

Paired with 16GB DDR4 3200Hz memory, you’re set up for great performance in most triple A titles this year for a fair price.

Although this model lacks an integrated webcam, it features all the necessary connectivity, long battery life and a lush 15 inch IPS screen with a whopping 300Hz refresh rate for the competitive gamers.

The only drawback we’ve seen in this system is storage. You wont fit a lot of games in the 512GB PCIe Gen 3 SSD, but if you can endure a little longer loading screens, external drives are a cheap and easy fix.

All in all, the performance and features presented makes this undoubtedly a great recommendation for a gaming system under $1500.

5. Asus TUF Dash F15

Asus' TUF gaming laptops and peripherals are geared at a budget-conscious consumer looking for the most bang for their budget.

The TUF Dash F15 is no exception, under the utilitarian approach to its design lies a powerful gaming system that won't disappoint.

This is an exceptionally tiny and portable gaming laptop, measuring only 0.8 inches thick and weighing only 4.5lb.

To ensure rigidity, both the keyboard deck and the lid are composed of aluminum. The bezels surrounding the display aren’t the thinnest compared to other laptops, however they are also not thick enough to interfere with gameplay or general use.

The TUF Dash F15 was one of the first systems to arrive with the new Alder Lake i7-12650H designed specifically for portable gaming laptops.

A solid 10 core 4.7GHz cpu, combined with 16GB DDR5 4800MHz memory and 512GB PCIe NVMe storage makes for some incredibly quick load screens.

Asus picked the RTX 3060 graphics chip which has proven to be a reliable and cost efficient option.

Since it’s built on Nvidia’s Ampere architecture it brings along some extra benefits like Ray Tracing and DLSS that has a noticeable impact on FPS and effects heavy games.

The 15 inch IPS screen is Full HD with a 144hz refresh rate, which is critical for esports, especially when paired with an RTX 3060, is both bright and lush with colors.

The Dash 15 features all of the expected ports, as well as thunderbolt and a battery life of up to 10 hours. Also, Asus has seemingly listened to community feedback and reintroduced the webcam. From our point of view this is the best bang for your buck laptop under $1500.
