Friendster comeback surfaces online; real or fake?

"Friendster is back," that's what many thought, as the defunct social media recently trended on Twitter and Facebook and had a mimicked website. With this news, many are thinking that the once-popular social media platform is making a comeback after 7 years.
On November 26, 2022, the website friendster.click went live. It has a slow loading speed, and the design looks simple, with only a few sections, such as blogs, members, groups, and forums.
A quick check on the domain showed that it was registered on November 18, 2021, and updated on October 30, 2022.
Moreover, a lookup on the website's Google Adsense ID (pub-7892270395485295) revealed that the owner is located in Indonesia.
As of writing, friendster.click registered over 7,000 members. The website also noted that they are "upgrading and beta testing" their system, reminding visitors to "expect slow page load time."

About Friendster
Canadian engineer Jonathan Abrams launched the California-based social networking site Friendster in 2003. In 2011, the company became a Malaysia-based social gaming website.

Before friendster.com was redesigned, users were able to communicate with other members, maintain their contacts, and share online content and media with their contacts. They can customize their profiles with different designs and change the default layout via CSS codes. Additionally, the website was utilized for dating and learning about new events, bands, and hobbies. Through profiles and networks, users could share videos, photos, messages, and comments with other members. It is regarded as one of the first social networks.
In 2015, the social media website ultimately shut down due to competition from other platforms such as Facebook and Twitter.
