DRX defeat T1 3-2 to win LoL Worlds 2022 grand finals

Underdog team DRX has completed a cinderella run after defeating T1, 3-2, in the best-of-five (BO5) grand finals of LoL Worlds 2022.

South Korean teams T1 and DragonX engaged in a nerve-racking battle in this year's League of Legends World Championship 2022 finals. DRX won the Summoner's Cup in the year's final five-game series, despite the fact that both squads had incredible backstories leading up to their finals appearance. The Unkillable Demon King Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok has once again been vanquished, and DRX, led by Kim "Deft" Hyuk-kyu, are the new champions.

Game 1 was a decisive victory for T1, with heartbreaking dragon thefts and Rift Herald denials keeping DRX on the defensive until Faker and his teammates sealed the match at the 31-minute mark.

Game 2 appeared to be heading in the same direction as Game 1, but a masterful performance by DragonX against T1's poke lineup allowed them to fight back bit by bit at objectives. DRX ended the second game in under 47 minutes.

Game 3 saw the first proper tanks drafted by each team, with much more traditional front-to-back compositions than the first two games, which featured damage-heavy profiles on both sides. Baron steals by T1 led the squad to dominate DRX and eventually win the match at the 32-minute mark.

In Game 4, with their backs against the wall, DRX gave all their best, crushing T1 around a Rift Herald clash that T1 overcommitted to and lost, which opened the game and map for DRX. Ultimately, DRX prevailed and finished the fourth game in under 29 minutes.

DRX snowballed through Game 5, capping the series off with a rally to T1's base that secured their 3-2 victory.

With their win, DRX claimed their first Summoner's Cup and took home the grand prize of USD 489,500 from the total prize pool of USD 2,225,000.

Meanwhile, runners-up T1 bagged USD 333,750 in consolation.
