1) Give great content

People read blogs for information, and if your site’s content doesn’t help people do that, they won’t come back. Always keep your readers in mind when writing. 

If you have an audience of entrepreneurs, are you giving them strategies for running their business? If you have a design audience, are you providing inspiration? Content is key! Know who you’re targeting and write accordingly.

2) Add Catchy images

Images not only help illustrate your point, but can also boost your search engine rankings. While you want images that are relevant and useful, it’s also a good idea to make sure they look professional. 

When using an image, consider whether or not it’s necessary and why it adds value to your post. Just because you have an image handy doesn’t mean you should add it. Keep in mind that adding visuals takes time, which means less writing time!.

3) Make it easy to share

The more people share your posts, the more they’ll be exposed to your site, and chances are you’ll gain a few new subscribers in turn. 

Be sure there’s a sharing widget on every page of your site (if not there already add one), and use social media related hashtags for each post whenever possible.

4) Build relationships

The first and most important thing you can do for your readers is write about topics they’re interested in. If you know them better, you can give them more of what they want; as a result, you’ll build a community around your writing. 

It’s kind of like dating, It doesn’t matter how attractive (or unattractive) you are if no one wants to go out with you.

5) Create new content types

Next generation blogs will create new content types designed to supplement, or even replace, traditional posts. Video blogs are perhaps most popular in Asia and Latin America, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t explore them for your newsroom.
