Mobile Legends: LPU Pirates crowned CCE Season 1 champions
Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) Pirates were crowned champions of the Collegiate Center for Esports (CCE) Season 1 - Mobile Legends: Bang Bang tournament after defeating San Sebastian College - Recoletos (SSCR) Golden Stags, 2-0, in the grand finals held at SM Mall of Asia Music Hall on July 28, 2022.
Both teams displayed excellent strategies and tactics in the championship round, which came down to the wire. The LPU Pirates maintained an offensive strategy throughout the entire battle and narrowly defeated the SSCR's defensive maneuvers. There was a possible shift in the middle of the fight, but the LPU Pirates maintained their composure and proved to be the more exceptional team. The LPU Pirates ultimately proved to be the best team.
The second place trophy was won by Jolo Denosta, Ken Ceron, Keiele Marin, Wyne Abcede, Miguel Diaz, and Mark Asuncion of the San Sebastian College-Recoletos Baste Golden Stags. The College of Saint Benilde Astra placed third.
It is a feat that will never be surpassed, as LPU Pirates are the undisputed winners of CCE Season 1, the first esports varsity cup supported by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). A permanent mark on the course of history.
LPU Pirates, bannered by Paul Huang, March Eusebio, Fonso Sales, Ralph Araz, Mark Delos Reyes, and MJ Balcita, are considered rookies in their own right in this new arena.
CCE co-founder Kirstin Montales shared that "both LPU and SSCR played tremendously, and both teams showed great team coordination during their battles."
"It is interesting to witness LPU taking the crown. They are one of the universities that have shown full support to their esports athletes by providing them the necessary training and equipment to ensure their success," added Montales.
Galaxy Racer, the official esports partner of CCE, has predicted a battle between LPU and SSCR. The company marketed and supported the tournament's organization.
Galaxy Racer country manager Marcia Guillermo said, "earlier on, we saw great teamwork from LPU as they won battle after battle. SSCR also showed a lot of grit during their battles, and a championship round between the two seemed inevitable."
"We look forward to the next season and other tournaments and cooperations with other companies and institutions interested in further promoting esports in the country. And to our champions, viva pirata!" added Guillermo.
The tournament held in the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall was electrifying, with students, friends, and family members representing their own. They were treated to the appearance of Galaxy Racer's content creators, the Tukomi Twins, who were treated to great gamesmanship from each team. Lester and Hiroshi collectively represent over 8 million Tukomi supporters on their social media channels. Despite the mounting tension among the players, their followers, and the fans, their appearance on stage created a light moment.
