CCE Season 1–the first, official MLBB collegiate esports tourney in PH
Esports organization Galaxy Racer, the official partner of Collegiate Center for Esports (CCE) Season 1, has elevated the tournament's participation, following, and online engagement.
CCE Season 1: New Arena To Conquer kicked off in June 2022 with ten colleges and universities seeding their best team to win the first and official Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) Collegiate Esports Tournament in the Philippines, supported by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
CCE co-founder Kirstin Montales said, "though the prize pool is the tangible reward, the real prize here is the mobilization of the dream of esports student-athletes towards their end goal."
"If they [college students] want to be a professional esports athlete, be in the esports industry, or pursue their bachelor's degree, it is now easier to achieve because there is already a solid support system from the school," added Montales.
CHED supports the mission of CCE and has given the tournament its official endorsement.
CHED regional sports director JM Vergara said, "CCE has the perfect vision and wants to unite all students under one organization that pushes for positive growth in all aspects of Esports. It is a growing industry; it is about time we pick up the pace and give our students the much-needed support."
According to a published report by consumer research firm Statista, gaming "through consoles, mobile, or PC [personal computer] has been gaining traction among Filipinos, especially among the younger generation." Moreover, "there is a strong preference in using mobile phones for gaming, largely due to the accessibility of low-cost smartphones and mobile internet infrastructures."
This report supports CCE's selection of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, one of the most popular online mobile games in the Philippines. In fact, MLBB Professional League is currently the most famous esport in the country and is frequently referred to as the basketball equivalent of esports.
Galaxy Racer Philippines country manager Marcia Guillermo said that they support CCE in its vision "to uplift esports in the country, especially among college students."
"We believe there is a strong partnership between our organizations in further promoting and making esports even and accessible, with the end goal of discovering, supporting, and building the next generation of athletes within esports," added Guillermo.
CCE Season 1 is considered one of Galaxy Racer's premier events in the country, managed and marketed by GXR Events. Further, the tournament gains from synergies of the business verticals of Galaxy Racer — Social media content management and digital media promotions via GXR Digital and influencer marketing via GXR Creators.
Everyone has their favorite team to win the inaugural esports varsity cup and claim the title. Will it be the Arellano University (AU) Chiefs, San Sebastian (SSC-R) Golden Stags, College of Saint Benilde (CSB) Astra, Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) Generals, Jose Rizal University (JRU) Bombers, Letran (CSJL) Cyber-Knights, Lyceum (LPU) Pirates, Mapua (MU) Cardinals, Perpetual (UPHSD) Altas, or San Beda Red Lions?
The final round of matches will take place on July 28, from 1 to 7 PM, at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall.
