world cup 2022: All Highlights

Introduction

The world cup 2022 is finally upon us! After four years of anticipation, the biggest soccer tournament in the world is finally here. From the first game to the final, we'll be bringing you all the highlights right here. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!

Tournament Format

The first thing to note about the World Cup is that it is a month-long event. It begins with a group stage, where each team plays three other teams in their group. From there, the top two teams from each group advance to the knockout stage. The knockout stage is a single-elimination tournament, where each game is do-or-die. The winner of the World Cup is the team that wins the final match.

Qualifying Teams

To qualify for the World Cup, a team must first participate in one of the six regional championships. The top two teams from each region will then advance to the World Cup.

In order to be eligible to participate in a regional championship, a team must first meet certain criteria. First, the team must be a member of FIFA. Second, the team must have played in at least five competitive matches during the qualifying period. Finally, the team’s coach must have been licensed by FIFA for at least two years.

Once a team has qualified for the World Cup, they will be placed into one of eight groups of four teams. Each group will play a round-robin tournament, with each team playing each other once. The top two teams from each group will then advance to the knockout stage.

Group Stage

In the group stage, each team plays three games, with the winners and runners-up from each group advancing to the knockout stage.

In the first round of games, Group A played Group B, Group C played Group D and so on. The second round of games saw the groups reversed, so that Group A played Group D and so forth. The third round of games was a repeat of the first round.

The group stage began on 14 June and ended on 28 June.

Round of 16

In the Round of 16, there were plenty of highlights to choose from. From Uruguay's stunning victory over Portugal, to France's thrilling win over Argentina, the Round of 16 had it all.

Other notable highlights included Russia's come-from-behind win over Spain, and Croatia's penalty shootout victory over Denmark.

As we move into the quarter-finals, there are sure to be plenty more exciting moments to come.

Quarter-Finals

The quarter-finals of the World Cup are upon us, and there are some mouth-watering clashes in store.

First up is Uruguay vs France. This promises to be a fascinating contest between two very different sides. Uruguay are all about their formidable defence, while France have been free-scoring in attack. Who will come out on top?

Next, we have Brazil vs Belgium. This is another hugely anticipated game, with both teams looking in great form. Brazil are the favourites to win this one, but Belgium have proved time and again that they should never be underestimated.

After that, it's England vs Sweden. This will be a tough test for England, who have not looked entirely convincing so far at this tournament. Sweden will be no pushovers either, though, and they will be hoping to cause an upset here.

Finally, we have Russia vs Croatia. Russia have been the surprise package of the tournament so far and will be keen to keep their dream run going against Croatia. However, Croatia are a very strong side and will provide a stern test for the hosts.

Semi-Finals

In the first semi-final, France will take on Belgium. This promises to be a thrilling game, with both sides boasting some of the best players in the world. France are the favourites to win, but Belgium have proved time and again that they are not to be underestimated.

The second semi-final will see England take on Croatia. This is another closely matched game, with both teams having had strong performances throughout the tournament. England will be hoping to make it to their first World Cup final since 1966, while Croatia will be looking to upset the odds once again.

Whichever teams make it through to the final, it is sure to be an exciting match. Be sure to tune in to catch all the action!

Final

The final of the 2018 FIFA World Cup took place on Sunday, 15 July 2018 at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, Russia. The match was contested by France and Croatia. France won the match 4–2 to claim their second World Cup title, making them the sixth nation to win multiple titles.

This was the first World Cup final to be played between two teams that had previously met in a final, with Croatia having beaten France in the 1998 semi-finals. It was also the first World Cup final to be played between two teams from Europe.

France took an early lead in the final when Antoine Griezmann scored from a penalty in the 13th minute. Mario Mandžukić then equalised for Croatia in the 28th minute with a stunning volley.

France restored their lead just before half-time when Griezmann scored again, this time from a free-kick. In the second half, Paul Pogba extended France's lead with a goal in the 59th minute. Mandžukić then got his second of the game in the 69th minute to make it 4–2, but it was not enough for Croatia as France held on to win their second World Cup title.

Qualification process for world cup 2022

The world cup is the most prestigious event in international football (soccer). It is held every four years and is contested by the men's national teams of the member countries of FIFA, soccer's global governing body.

To qualify for the world cup, a team must first compete in their respective continental championship (e.g., Europe's UEFA Champions League, South America's CONMEBOL Copa America, Africa's CAF African Cup of Nations, Asia's AFC Asian Cup). The top teams from each continent advance to the world cup.

In recent years, an additional qualifying round has been added for teams from non-continental championships. The number of teams that qualify from this round varies depending on how many spots are available overall. For example, in 2018 there were 32 total spots available; 14 went to teams from Europe, 5 to teams from South America, 4 to teams from Africa, 3 to teams from Asia/Australia, and 1 to a team from CONCACAF (North/Central America & Caribbean). In 2022, there will be an increase to 48 total spots available; 16 will go to European teams, 8 will go to South American teams, 6 will go to African teams, 5 will go to Asian/Australian teams, and 3 will go CONCACAF teams.
