Smart tops Opensignal Mobile Experience Awards for Oct 2022
Independent analytics firm Opensignal has released its October 2022 Mobile Network Experience report and awards on the Philippines, indicating that Smart is the dominant winner against other local telcos Globe and DITO, during the third quarter of 2022.
According to the latest report, Smart secured 11 out of 16 awards, such as download speed and the user experience when playing multiplayer mobile games or using voice apps over cellular connections. DITO, on the other hand, is the winner in terms of upload speed experience and availability, while Globe is the leader in terms of 5G video experience, upload speed, and core consistent quality.

Smart – fastest download speeds
Both the overall Download Speed Experience and 5G Download Speed awards continue to go to Smart. It recorded an average download speed of 22.5 Mbps, which is 5.3 Mbps (30.6%) faster than DITO's 17.2 Mbps and 8.3 Mbps (58.8%) faster than Globe's 14.2 Mbps. Moreover, Smart registered average 5G download speeds of 134.8 Mbps, 17.3 Mbps faster than Globe users' 117.5 Mbps.
Globe – top 5G upload speed
Globe has overtaken Smart's previous lead of 3.6 Mbps in the last report to win the 5G Upload Speed award with a score of 12.8 Mbps. It has a victory margin of 1.4 Mbps. Globe's triumph was due to an increase of 1.8 Mbps in average 5G upload speeds for Globe users and a decrease of 3.2 Mbps for Smart users.
Globe gains momentum on Games Experience overall, but Smart takes home the award
Since Opensignal's last report, Globe users have seen the greatest overall improvement when playing multiplayer mobile games over cellular connections. The score of the operator increased by nine points (23.8%), while DITO's score increased by 4.7 points (11.4%), and Smart's score remained statistically unchanged. This has placed Globe in the second spot and reduced Smart's lead from 12.9 to 7.8 points.
Globe ties Smart regarding 5G Games Experience and 5G Voice App Experience
Globe and Smart share the awards for the 5G Games Experience and 5G Voice App Experience. In the most recent report, Smart swept both awards. Globe's 5G Games Experience score increased by 6.3% since the previous report, while Smart's score decreased by 4.8%. Globe users were the only ones whose 5G Voice App Experience improved, with a modest increase of 1.6 points.
Smart has the widest 5G Availability
Again, Smart 5G users spent the most time with an active 5G connection and discovered 5G signals in the most locations. This time, Smart wins 5G Availability with a score of 16.5% and a lead of 6.7% over Globe's 9.8%. Smart's score of 4.6 points for 5G Reach places it on top once again, giving it a lead of 0.6 points over Globe's score of 4.1 points.
Smart defeats Globe to earn the Excellent Consistent Quality Award
This change in winner is due to Smart's remarkable 14.4 percentage point improvement since the previous report. Similar to DITO, a rise of 12.5 percentage points propelled the telco to second place. The percentage of Globe users increased by only two percentage points. Smart triumphs with a score of 58.2% and a 3.8-point advantage.
