Motorola Edge X40: New Samsung S23 Ultra Rival

It's easy to forget, then, that the Lenovo-owned brand is also (increasingly) active on Global high-end Devices.

Just a few months after the generally premium Edge 30 Ultra was released. And now in certain markets, another impressive member of the Motorola Edge family is definitely on the way.

As confirmed by official Chinese certification documents that include not only device depictions but also a number of key specs.

So let's start with the most important Edge X40 details: it will use a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 CPU from Qualcomm.

Yes, it is confirmed that the upcoming Motorola flagship will have the beast CPU, and if history is any indication, Motorola may likely become the first smartphone manufacturer to introduce and (regional level) release a device using Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

As of right now, all upcoming flagship phones will use the latest Snapdragon CPU. And Samsung will also use this 8 Gen 2 CPU in their future S23 Series, and considering the specifications of the Moto Edge X40, it may challenge the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

Moving on to the display, the 6.67-inch screen has a 2400 x 1080 pixel resolution, and the OLED display is anticipated to offer 144Hz refresh rate capabilities for incredibly smoot mobile gaming.

Motorola is once again trying to find a balance between power and price. If you look at the back design of the phone, you'll have to decide if the new back-side camera module look better or worse than the old vertical one.

The actual imaging sensors on the back of the smartphone have also seen major changes, with the secondary camera jumping from a poor 2MP count to a whopping 12MP count.

The main and secondary cameras, on the other hand, will stay at 50 megapixels, bypassing the 200MP upgrade already made by the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra and one that the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is most likely to make in the next few months or so as well.

Motorola definitely doesn't want this Phone to be extremely expensive, but if you choose the flagship model with 512GB storage and 18GB (!!!) RAM, it's doubtful you'll have much money left over for holiday shopping this year.

The Motorola Edge X40 is scheduled to go on sale in China at the end of December. However, global customers may not be able to purchase the device until January or February 2023, which will very likely launch worldwide as the Motorola Edge 40 Pro.
