How to Link, Migrate Your Garena LoL Account to Riot Games

Riot Games has stated that, after 12 long years, its publishing partnership with Garena will end on December 31, 2022. That said, it will self-publish League of Legends (LoL) and Teamfight Tactics (TFT) in Southeast Asia (SEA). Players will be required to migrate their accounts from Garena to Riot Games.

Riot said that it is collaborating closely with Garena to ensure that players' account information is preserved during the account migration process. The migration of services from Garena to Riot Games requires accounts to be linked in order for account data to be synced and transferred. The game company has an Account Migration Microsite (https://accountmigration.leagueoflegends.com) to help players migrate their Garena account data to new or existing Riot IDs.

Account Migration from Garena to Riot Games: Overview

Riot will take over the publishing of League of Legends and TFT in Southeast Asia after its contract with Garena concludes on December 31, 2022.

Players from LoL Garena-covered regions (Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Thailand, and Vietnam) will need to migrate their accounts to Riot Games.

Consequently, both League of Legends and TFT will be accessible via the Riot client, a single sign-on platform that houses all the games. Players can download the multi-game client by visiting www.riotgames.com.

How to Link and Migrate Your Garena League of Legends Account to Riot Games

Here's a guide on how you can link and migrate your Garena LoL account to Riot Games. You'll be able to link your account on Garena Client starting from November 18, 2022, 10 AM (Philippine time) until early January 2023, and then through the Riot Client after the migration is complete. Also, note that account linking cannot be undone. After linking your Garena Account Shard and Riot Account, there is no turning back. Verify that you are linking the correct accounts, as you cannot link multiple accounts (only one Garena account shard can be linked per Riot Account).

Checklist:

A Garena LoL account with data progression

Your Garena account must be active and have some signs of progression (champion mastery, ranked games in your match history, honor or challenge progress, etc.) or include unlocked/purchased content (RP, skins, TFT Coins, etc.).

A Riot account with the same shard as your Garena LoL account

For a new Riot account

It will automatically convert to your Garena shard after the transfer.

For an existing Riot account with LoL progress

Check your LoL Riot account's region. Log in (https://auth.riotgames.com/login) -> Account Management -> Personal Information (Your country/region will be listed here). Both your Region of Residence and your shard are based on your physical location when you created your account. So if you created your account in Asia, for example, your Region of Residence would be Singapore, and you would be on the Singapore shard. If your region of residence doesn't match your current physical region or isn't the same as your Garena LoL account, it is most likely your shard will not match for account linking. For now, all shard transfers in and out of the SEA servers have been stopped until further notice. If you're looking to preserve your Garena LoL progress but don't currently have an eligible Riot account, then you should create a new account.
Check your LoL Garena account's region and shard. Open your Garena client. Go to Settings. Under General, find your account region. Garena accounts may have two pieces of location information: a region based on your IP and a shard if you've changed to a region that is not reflective of your IP. In a nutshell: your REGION is the red-highlighted text, while your SHARD is the one in the "Region" drop-down menu.

LoL Garena to Riot Account Linking Steps:

Make sure you have completed the checklist above.
Log in to the Garena Client.
Select League of Legends.
Select "Start Linking" to go to the account linking page. (You might be directed to follow a series of prompts regarding your Garena Account. Complete these to continue.)
Confirm your desired LoL Garena Account (Remember: Accounts can only be linked once. Previously linked accounts will not be eligible at this step.)
Log in to your desired Riot Account. Or create a new one via the official Riot Games website (https://www.riotgames.com).
Follow the instructions to prepare your account for linking.
Continue until you reach the "Ready to Link?" page, where you can see all the changes that will be made to your account.
If everything looks okay, click "Link Accounts," and you're done!
