Converge, DOTr sign deal for free WiFi at Philippine airports

Fiber broadband internet provider Converge ICT has partnered with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to provide free public WiFi services in passenger terminals of nine (9) international and domestic airports across the Philippines.
Converge ICT Solutions signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the DOTr, Manila, Mactan-Cebu, and Davao International Airport Authorities for the offering of free, fast, and reliable internet services in select airports in the country. The deal was signed on November 17, 2022.
The telco is given 90 days (roughly three months) from the signing of the MOA to develop its roll-out plan, with the first free public WiFi expected to launch in the first quarter of 2023.
As of the moment, the said free public WiFi would cover the arrival and departure areas of all passenger terminals of the following airports:
- Ninoy Aquino International Airport
- Francisco Bangoy International Airport
- Mactan-Cebu International Airport
- Bacolod-Silay Airport
- Iloilo International Airport
- Laoag International Airport
- Pagadian Airport
- Tacloban Airport
- Zamboanga International Airport
Through this partnership, Converge will offer registered users 120 minutes per day of free access to fast, dependable, and secure internet services.
In the arrival and departure areas of each terminal building at the aforementioned airports, passengers will experience a minimum bandwidth speed of 1Gbps with service reliability of 80 percent.
Converge CEO and co-founder Dennis Anthony Uy said that it is an honor to extend their capabilities to the DoTr, CAAP, and all their partner airports as they "work together to empower travelers in this digital age."
