Saraiki Language: Facts, Stats, & Everything You Need To Know

 Saraiki is a regional language of the Indo-Aryan family, spoken in Pakistan, India, Afghanistan and Iran. It is also known as Sindhi-Punjabi. Saraiki is the most widely spoken language in Pakistan and is one of the 22 official languages of Pakistan.

As per Census 2000, Saraiki has more than 50 million speakers in Pakistan and about 15 million in India. In addition to its native speakers, it is also used by many people from other countries such as Europe (particularly Germany), Scandinavia and Central Asia (Russia).

Saraiki belongs to the Punjabi subgroup of Indo-Aryan languages, together with Hindustani (Hindustani) and Urdu. Saraiki evolved from Balochi Prakrit during medieval period.

Saraiki is a language of the Indo-Aryan family, spoken predominantly in Pakistan and India (the former East Punjab) as well as in Afghanistan and Iran.

It is one of the largest languages in South Asia and has been known by many other names over time, including Pashto (in Afghanistan), Afghani, Paštūnī (in India), and Pushto. It is written with a variety of scripts: Shahmukhi script in Pakistan; Nastaliq script in Afghanistan; Persian script; Arabic script for Hindko speakers residing in Pakistan and Urdu speakers residing in India; Pothwari and Thalatoli scripts for Punjabi speakers residing in Pakistan. Saraiki may be considered either a dialect or a language depending on the context of its use.

Saraiki is a group of about 24 dialects spoken in Pakistan, India, Iran and Afghanistan. The dialects are mutually intelligible with each other.

Saraiki has been a victim of both assimilation and internal variation over the centuries. In India, it was mainly spoken in central Punjab, while in Pakistan, it was confined to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in the North West Frontier region. At present Saraiki is spoken in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by about 10 million people and by about 2 million people in Sindh province of Pakistan. It is also spoken by approximately 200 thousand people in Iran (mostly in western Iran), and by almost 1 million people in Afghanistan (mainly eastern Afghanistan).

Saraiki is a language spoken by over three million people in Pakistan, Pakistan's largest ethnic group. It is also spoken by over 60 million people in parts of India and Iran.

Saraiki is part of the Indo-Aryan language family, along with Hindi and Urdu. It has more than 30 dialects, but today most people speak a standard variety called Khariboli. The name Saraiki comes from the word sar , which means "people," and aki , which means "language."
