Power of mind | Controlling mind mean stillness | Mind Control | All you need to know about - Akhbaar Express
The human mind, the most complex organ in the human body. It has billions of neurons, each connected to other thousands of neurons. Here, we are not going to discuss its biology but about how it affects my life, your life and everyone’s life.
But answer my question first, who is controlling who in your life?
- You are controlling your mind
- Your mind controlling you, or
- Some else controlling your mind and you
If your answer is ‘1’ then it’s well and good but if not ‘1’ then you may face in problem in life especially the one whose' answer is ‘3’
Our minds stop us from doing what we love because it was too risky. But it allows us to do things which we don’t want to do. It allowed us to drink alcohol, smoke cigarettes, masturbate or eat junk food even if you wanted to stop them.
Our mind is rarely present in the present. According to research, our minds are only in the present for 3 second at a time. Other times, thinking about the future or past, like it's constantly predicting or guessing what is going to happen next.
True growth requires control over mind, for this we need to understand our mind. The more we can evaluate, train and strengthen our minds, the more successfully we overcome our problems or challenges.
Train your senses
We have five senses, touch, taste, skin, noise, ear and eye. These senses are responsible for our attachments and desires, pulling us in the path of pleasure and destabilizing the mind. If we can control our senses, we could control our mind.
Our minds should be proactive rather than reactive. For example, whenever you go to YouTube to watch one video, you end up watching more than 5 videos or scrolling lots of YouTube shorts. Senses distract our mind from where we want it to be, but here you can’t blame your senses for this. This distraction is the result of what you feed your mind. So here to control your senses, you need to remove the thing that triggers distraction and stop you from where you want it to be. Let say you are addicted to masturbation, here you first need to stop seeing photos or videos which trigger that feeling.
Self-control is the greatest power to train your mind and energy, to concentrate on your passion. You can do anything that seems challenging, tough or impossible without being too excited in pleasure or depressed.

Talk with yourself
Feel free to talk with yourself every day. You can address yourself with your name and can speak loud whenever - wherever you are comfortable doing so. If your mind says, “it’s not possible, you can’t do this” respond by saying to yourself, “don’t give up, you can do this”. Talking to yourself enhances your focus and concentration, it helps to clarify your thoughts and in making decisions.
But it can turn negative if you speak negatively about yourself. You need to understand, if you want others to respect or follow you, you need to respect yourself and follow your thought first. Also, you need to treat yourself with the same love and respect you want to show to others.
Stay in present
We all have bad and good, happy and sad memories of the past. We enjoy memorizing our good and happy memories but at the same time we feel regret while remembering bad and sad memories. Some people are so affected by their past that they forget enjoying the present. We need to understand that the past is unchangeable whether it is bad or good.
Similarly, the future is unpredictable, people are so busy working for their future that they are not even giving time to their family and friends. A certain amount of planning is good for various scenarios ahead, but when this thought increases your anxiety and depression, they would not be good anymore.
Daydreaming, an imagination of mind for feeling pleasure. People daydream while walking, studying, working, any time. In this state of mind, you are not in the past, future or present, you are in your own imagination which has no end.
We could not reach a point in life when we’re present 100% of the time, don’t worry that is not even our goal. Although we can learn valuable things from our past or do a certain amount of planning for the future, we should try not to waste our time on regret or worry.
When your mind continually returns to the memory of past or future, ask yourself questions about current time, try to push your mind in the present.
Detachment
Detachment is the practice of self-control, which starts from your mind. It is the process of doing the right thing for your own sake. If you want to control your mind, you need to detach the thing that triggers distraction in your mind. One thing that people misunderstand, they think detachment means, you should own nothing but actually its meaning is nothing should own you. You should not be attached to anything because attachment brings pain.
After you completely detach yourself from unwanted things, you need to fill your mind with good things. Our mind is like a hard disk, whatever you fill in it, it will work like that. After detachment, your mind is completely clean from unwanted things, now you can fill it with what you wanted.
Final word
Controlling your own mind is very important. Controlling the mind does not mean making the mind busy all the time, don’t misunderstand it. Controlling the mind means stillness. People could not even sit for 10 minutes without thinking about anything. Controlling the mind means controlling the thought which one should be in mind and which one not. Controlling the mind is not a one-day process, but it’s not even impossible.
A grandfather tells his grandson, “Every choice in life is a battle between two bears inside us. One represents envy, greed, anger, fear, ego and lies. Other one represents peace, humanity, positivity, love and kindness. They are competing for supremacy”.
“Which one wins?”, grandson asked.
“The one you feed”, grandfather replies.
