Ego is not our enemy | Ego is good | All you need to know about - Akhbaar Express
“I am a teacher and nobody can teach better than me” or “No one can beat me in chess.”
I think you must have heard this type of sentence or maybe you said this type of thing at some point in your life. And yes, this is ego but a false one. Having an ego is not bad but if you have a false ego then that is the problem. Like most other things, ego also has two types, real ego, and false ego. Real ego makes us aware and awake to reality and on the other side, false ego is our sense of being the most important, the most significant, the one who knows everything. In our Veda, it's written that pride in anything will destroy that thing like pride in wealth, destroy wealth or pride of knowledge, destroy knowledge.
Under false ego, we start making fake identities that others like. We hide our true nature from others, lie to impress others, or behave like we can do anything, we are the mister perfect.
False Ego is a costume
In this material world, everyone wants attention. In our eagerness to gain attention as the greatest and smartest, we hide our true nature. In this time of technology, people are using a filter to click their selfies, like seriously, they don’t even like their faces. If you don’t like your face, how would you like yourself? You need to understand that you need to be yourself. If you are not rich, you don’t need to look rich.
We desire to show ourselves and others that we know it all, I am perfect and no one is better than me in this. We actually directly jump to the conclusion and fail to listen to our friends. This activity is stopping our growth. Most of the time people think they are right when they are wrong, even when they know that too.
Are we ashamed or grateful when we discover that we are wrong about something? Are we defensive or intrigued when we find information that contradicts something we believe? If we aren’t open-minded, we deny ourselves opportunities to learn, grow and change.
One of the reasons for this is we are living in the perception of the perception of others and Insecurities make us want to convince ourselves and others that we are special, so we try to look more confident, more knowledgeable, or more accomplished. You need to understand that if you are satisfied with who you are, you don’t need to prove your values to others.
The best way to find out who you are is, you just go and sit in a room alone where there is no one to impress or disturb you. whatever you think or take a decision is what you actually are because there is only you who knows what you need, whether spending time on social media or doing meditation, whether wearing a t-shirt or shirt or whether eating salad or burger and pizza. That is a glimpse into who you indeed are.
“You are truly you when no one is watching”
In the darkness of ego, we think we are special, powerful, and intelligent, but when we look at ourselves in comparison to others, we realize that we only play a small part.
Must read
Build confidence, not ego
In a simple sentence, we distinguish these two-term,
- I am a good player on the team
- I am the best player in the time
Now, the 1st one is the sentence of a confident player, and 2nd one is the sentence of an overconfident/ egoist player.
Confidence and self-esteem help you accept yourself as you are, humble, imperfect, and striving. Don’t confuse a false ego with your self-esteem. Humanity plays a very important role in building confidence, it allows you to see your strengths and weaknesses clearly, so you can work, learn and grow.
The ego wants others to like you, self-esteem is just fine if they don’t. The ego thinks it knows everything, and self-esteem says it can learn from anyone. The ego wants to prove itself, and self-esteem wants to express itself.
Instead of worrying about what people say, we filter what people will say. Instead of comparing ourselves to others, we look to improve ourselves. Instead of wanting to prove ourselves, we want to be ourselves, meaning we aren’t distracted by external wants.
Final words
Keep a good ego and throw away the false ego. If you really want to throw a false ego, you need to change your approach toward your thinking. Don’t feel small compared to others, but you should feel small compared to your goals. For example, It doesn’t matter how long you meditate, but how deep you go in meditation. Even if you become the world's most successful man, always remember that you are a human in the end. Remind yourself who you are and why you are doing the work. Always sustain humanity after you achieve something.
