Northeast India, is one of the most beautiful places in India although Indians don’t know about its beauty. We call India our mother similarly we also have sisters in India. Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Mizoram, Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura, and Meghalaya are the seven sisters of India in the northeast. It is the most fascinating place in India which consists of mountains, hills, rainforests, rivers, jungles, and predators, and lack of infrastructure too. This small-sized region has one of the highest biodiversity concentrations found anywhere in the world. Most of the region is unexplored there. Their food, culture, and appearance are totally different from the other parts of India. Just like the south, they don’t speak Hindi, they speak their own local language and English. Their facial looks are different from the people of other parts of India. This difference led to facial discrimination. These people are facing lots of facial discrimination in their own country.
Racism with northeast people
You will be shocked to know that Some people of northeast India do not consider themselves Indian. They are facing racism in their own country. People say them, chinki, Chinese, Japanese, momo, outsider, refugee, and many more things. Their lives are very difficult than normal people in other parts of India. people call northeast Man, "loose women". Due to this racism and discrimination, they hate to live in other parts of India, that are also the reason why some of them do not even consider themselves Indian.
They mostly make friends who belong to their community. They are not so open with other people. they feel insecure in their own country. People don’t give their house for rent to them easily and ask irrelevant questions. Sometimes they are forced to speak in other local languages just for fun. And the most insulting thing is people even force them to prove their nationality. If they go to file an FIR against them, police refuse to write and make fun of them too.

Whose fault, is it?
It’s the fault of everyone, every individual who insults or teases another one on the basis of their color, culture, facial, etc. Even if you’re saying chinki, Chinese, momo to your friend, don’t do this. He is not saying anything just because he is your friend. Remember that. Nobody teaches children about racism. Parents worry about exposing their children to issues like racism and discrimination. They should start teaching their child as early as possible. The earlier the parents start this conversation, the better children will become.
Education system
Most of the students don’t know about northeast India. Our education system doesn’t teach us about the northeast part of India. We are unaware of the beauty of the northeast and their culture and that’s why people consider them outsiders because they don’t know about them. They are always ignored in our education system. No school curriculum talks about this.
Media
The media's role is to show the news of every part of India. But the media very rarely shows the news of northeast India. They don't show their politics, education system, poverty, and all. Even in corona time, they don’t show how badly people are treating them. They didn’t cover any news about people harassment on them
Government
In 2014, the infamous murder of 19-year-old Nido Taniam, a 19-year-old student from Arunachal Pradesh, New Delhi led to form an 11-member committee led by MP Bezvaruak, a member of the Northeast Council, who headed the trade union office. The commission's task is to deal with the problems of the people of the Northeastern states living in other parts of India.
To address the issues facing Northeast residents, the Commission report proposes a range of legal actions and recommendations, including changes to the IPC through new offenses under sections 153C and 509A. According to the Commission, this will help to combat hateful remarks, gestures, and behaviors based on racial prejudice. Other important recommendations made by the committee include:
· The government has established several hotlines for victims of these social threats to get help and support.
· Establishes the legal team to resolve legal issues for Northeast victims, 50% of whom are women.
· Most importantly, an emergency court was created to handle all racial cases involving Northerners.
However, none of these recommendations have been implemented.
India is one of the greatest diverse countries. Different - different types of culture and regions live together in India. We should respect each other's culture and religion but I think we have failed somewhere to represent our inclusive India. That’s why some northeast people don’t even want to consider themselves as Indian because of their bad experience in other parts of India.
Not all are against India, some of them have good experience and even some are representing India at the international level in sports like Mary Kom, and Chanu Saikom Mirabai. They feel proud to be an Indian. But this doesn't change the fact that they also faced such discrimination in the past. Here the question is, why do they need to prove, to be called as Indian? They also face discrimination until they won a medal for India.
We have to change our mindset first and then teach others to stop this practice. The government must have the utmost responsibility in teaching the country about the culture, history, and politics of this nation.
