PLDT, fastest fixed network in PH —Ookla Q1-Q2 2022

PLDT Home has been named the Philippines' fastest fixed broadband for Q1-Q2 2022, according to the latest Ookla Speedtest Awards.

Ookla, a global benchmarking firm, announced that PLDT earned a Speed Score of 77.91 and recorded the fastest download and upload speeds at 210.83 Mbps and 234.21 Mbps, respectively.

Ookla says "Speed Score" uses a modified trimean to demonstrate the download and upload speeds available across a provider's network. It takes speeds from the 10th percentile, 50th percentile (also known as the median), and 90th percentile and then combines them in a weighted average using a 1:8:1 ratio, respectively. Finally, it will place the most emphasis on the download speeds and median speeds, as these are what most customers will experience on a daily basis. The 80% of the final Speed Score is attributed to download speed and the remaining 20% to upload speed.

Here's the ranking of internet service providers (ISPs) in the Philippines in the first half of 2022, according to Ookla's Speed Score:
  • #1. PLDT – 77.91
  • #2. Converge ICT – 68.91

Additionally, PLDT is the only telecommunications provider in the Philippines capable of delivering up to 10,000 Mbps fiber-optic service. This places the country alongside other first-world nations, such as South Korea, Japan, Sweden, Norway, Italy, New Zealand, and the United States, that have access to ultra-fast home internet speeds. All of these innovations are made possible by PLDT's largest network, which boasts an expanded fiber infrastructure of over 803,000 kilometers, a total fiber capacity of 6.25 million ports, and a reach of 15.5 million homes.
